THE JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH

To the left is the Natural Entrance where we started our journey to the center of the earth, not really, but it seemed like it as we walked and walked, down and down. We went down 800 feet. To the right is Katie and I with our lanterns on the left hand tunnel tour. That helps us see what it was like to be the first explorer in the caves. The caves were not made by water, like most caves. It was made by Sulfuric Acid that ate away the rock and made it look like swiss cheese and created huge rooms. We did tours for 3 days and loved being in the caves.

In side there were walls of rock and baskets of corn cobs. Then there were hand prints on the walls too. It was so cool and fun. People lived in them 800 years ago.

KARTCHNER CAVERNS

These things look like string, but are actually rock. They also are formed by drips of water and are hollow in the center. That is why they are called soda straws. There is one in these caves that is 21 feet long.
We also saw a huge formation called Kubla Kahn. It really was amazing. We are having fun on our trip and learning many things. We do our home school in our trailer in all these different places.

TUCSON

We are in Tucson visiting our cousins. While we were here we took a trip to Kartchner caverns and went on a tour. It was really fun and we learned a lot about caves and how they were formed. All these shapes were created by drips of water over many many years.

JUMBO ROCK

Here we are at our campground called Jumbo Rock. You can see why it has that name! Katie and I loved climbing on the big rocks. We went on a hike to a huge rock called skull rock because it looked just like someone's skull.

JOSHUA TREE

We are now at Joshua Tree National Park in Southern California. The park is named after the Joshua Tree on the right. The Mormon Pioneers named this tree because it made them think of Joshua with his arms high in the air before he made the walls of Jerico fall down.

FIRST STOP - AVILA BEACH

We decided to begin our adventure close to home just in case we forgot something important. It was beautiful at Avila and we hated to leave.
We went on the hike to the lighthouse and biked the wonderful trail that runs from the freeway to the beach.
